It allows qualified state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies to perform specific immigration enforcement functions under ICE's direction, supervision, and oversight.
The program aims to enhance public safety by identifying, processing, and removing removable noncitizens (often referred to as "criminal aliens" ) who are involved in crimes such as gang activity, violent offenses, human smuggling, organized crime, sex offenses, drug smuggling, or money laundering.
