10 years clean today from a crippling opioid addiction and alcolism. A huge thank you to those who helped me along the way, and a very special thank you to my wife, who had every reason to give up on me, but never did. But most of all thank you to God who in my darkest hour, when I was out of bullshit, out of drugs, out of money, out of friends, and my family has just walked out the door and I knew they were done with me. I wanted to end it all that day, but before my family left, they got all of my guns out of the house. I was completely defeated and was already in severe opioid withdrawal that was only going to get worse. I broke down, and dropped to my knees and told God that I didn't know what to do, and that I really needed help as I crying uncontrollably. I said I can't live this way anymore, but it was all I ever knew from a very young age. God literally entered my tattered soul, and a peaceful calm washed over my entire body. I knew at that very moment, everything was going to be ok. After growing up up my entire life bouncing between atheist and agnostic, I had no more doubt that God was real, and I never questioned that again. I knew I could get through the long process of withdrawal, and as long as I did my part he would help carry me through to the other side. My life has improved in so many ways since then. Living clean is not always easy, but it's far greater than the alternative. I'm just going to keep putting one foot in front of the other, and doing the right thing especially when it's difficult!
